The Training Exercise Warehouse is a 6,020 square foot building located at Ft. Hunter Liggett, California. The building is primarily used as a training facility and equipped with one office space. The contractor, Total Team Construction, requested Blue Quality Services to perform Whole Building Air Leakage Testing in accordance with US Army Corps of Engineers Testing Protocol.
Air Barrier Testing is a non-destructive testing method is designed to evaluate the building’s overall air-tightness and to better understand the major areas of potential air leakage through the building’s enclosure. The US Army Corps of Engineers Testing Protocol is a standardized technique for measuring the amount of air leakage rates. It involves sealing off all outdoor air exhausts and intakes, and using interconnected, computer controlled, variable speed fans to calculate the air flow necessary to bring the building to a constant pre-determined pressure.
The Training Exercise Warehouse failed our air barrier test and our Consultants used both infrared thermography scanning and diagnostic smoke tracer testing to locate the specific areas of leakage. Leakage was present at roof to wall connections, wall penetrations, conduit piping, and windows. All findings were outlined in a final report sent to Total Team Construction and representatives from the US Army Corps of Engineers.
